Message musclecars is about as apples/oranges as it gets within the collector car world.

The only parallel I could see would be likening mopar musclecars to toyota supras based on their rarity relative to the other makes. You already see the marked disparity in values between mopar musclecars and ford/GM just as you do between supras and the rest.

However mopar (and ford/gm) musclecars I would guess sold new in the neighborhood of $7-8k at the most, and have increased in value 5-10, sometimes even 15, fold, depending on the make. I have seen these cars go At Barrett Jackson anywhere from typically 35-45k for GM/Ford all the way up to 100k+ for Mopar.

There is no way in hell any japanese mass produced sportscar, much less any iteration of 300ZX, is going to see a value 5x that of its $35-45k original sale price, $165k for a mint stock 300ZX, no way....$450k for a mint SMZ? No way, not in the next 30 years, the automotive industry is not what it was 35-40 years ago, and these cars simply do not retain that sort of value. IMO mass produced cars will never appreciate in value ever again, unless there is some dramatic change in the automotive industry and how cars are produced/designed.

No offense but I see SMZ's as "highly collectible" only to the uninformed/less-discerning collector. That doesn't mean there won't be someone out there someday willing to pay premium money for it. Hell there are people who collect breakfast cereals, anything is possible, especially in the US.
